El-Atrash Law Firm was established almost seventy years ago by Advocate Salem Abdul Qadr El-Atrash. One of the distinguished Libyan statesmen chosen to participate in the creation of Libya’s first constitution and a member of the first Parliament appointed by Prince Idris Al-Sanusi, Salem El-Atrash continued to demonstrate his commitment to the highest principles of the emerging nation through the decades that followed, developing his capabilities in several fields. He contributed to the field of Education by teaching and publishing books on national matters such as “How and why we struggle against Italy” during the period of Italian Colonisation. After Independence, his dedication to national issues reflected itself in his insistence to remain a member in the Libyan Parliament to seek a better life for his people through education, health and in enhancing the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary. His contribution to the Parliaments of the Sixties is still recorded in the minutes of its sessions but more importantly in the hearts and minds of the Libyan People.
His dedication to the defence of human rights was an integral part of his principles, bringing him to the fore in what came to be known as the most delicate cases in Libyan judicial history, where Mr. Salem El-Atrash was able to make a generous contribution to the emerging Libyan Legal system in general and to the judicial arena in particular, participating in the creation of numerous legal principles which remain an integral part of the judicial system. Over the years these legal principles have been applied by all levels of courts, including the Supreme Court.
The active and sustained effort of Mr. Salem El-Atrash throughout the years of his career meant that these principles gained the highest level of legal and judicial application in all fields of law, in particular administrative, penal, civil and constitutional law.
